Tip of the MonthI have written a power tip that includes X factor stretch. As I am about to type it I realize I have never talked about posture. I can’t put the horse before the cart. Your posture is very important for a number of reasons: injury prevention, body movement, strength, flexibility, swing plane, etc. Let’s talk about it, Your back should be straight at address-no curve. To get to this position you have to tilt your hips, I ask students daily to tilt their belt. If your belt stays horizontal or parallel to the ground you have to round your back to get to the ball-- bad for business. At address, engage your abdominal muscles and support the forward tilt of your spine. When folks complain of lower back pain they are commonly supporting the forward tilt of their spine with their back muscles. They are trying to rotate or stretch a muscle that is already flexed, to support the back. This can also happen at the other end of the spectrum if there is upward curve in your lower back

I have been busy teaching and preparing for the golf season. I qualified for the MD State Open. I am excited to be in the field for the tournament July 9-11 at Old South. florida golf schoolsThe Florida Winter Golf School dates are out. Session 1 starts January 31st and there is a session every Thursday-Sunday until March 17th. If you are not familiar with the schools you can go to my website golfclubmd.com. This will be the 4th year of the schools and many students have returned year after year. We have a short workout before breakfast, eat and then off to the driving range for the day’s instruction which includes full swing, short game, putting, power, ball flight, rules, etiquette and more. We use video, 3D, and training with 3 PGA instructors-- all for your golfing improvement. After lunch we play 18 holes. This year we are going to make a few changes in the afternoon by adding instruction after lunch before optional playing. We are always trying to improve the experience. New building at paint branchThe building at Paint Branch has not opened. The hang up is the paving around the building; it doesn’t reach the handicap ramp so the inspectors will not sign off. The building is finished on the inside. As soon the problem is taken care of, I will be ready with a number of new programs that include an elite Jr. program, a serious Sr. program and other things that may include memberships, etc.
