About Me
I hope you are well, it has been a while since my last newsletter. I enjoy writing and have missed the responses I get after these letters. I have been busy, here is a quick catch up; Florida schools were the best ever, Lana and I got married and bought a new home, I am teaching more at UMD and Richland (closer to our house), I have been studying Real Estate and all the little things that go along with those activities.
Florida Schools
Here is a recap if you didn’t make it down last year. We worked out of Reunion Resort exclusively. The feedback from the students was awesome. We stayed at the resort and were minutes away from the practice area. We had 3 putting greens, 3 sand bunkers, short game area, all grass driving range and indoor bays all at our fingertips.
I have heard many success stories from the students that went. Gene, a corporate sponsor that has brought many groups down over the years, said it was the best ever. Players had career lows and have beaten them again since they have been home by continuing with the plan we created. I firmly believe practice with a purpose and measuring your success guarantees improvement.
We plan to offer a January school this year focused on power. The goal will be to create a plan using the off-season to increase distance through strength, balance, centeredness and speed. If you or know someone interested, send me a note to [email protected]. I can’t wait to see everyone this winter.
Richland/Chris Custom Coaching
After Paint Branch came under new management I landed at Richland in Middletown, MD, previously called Hollow Creek. It was recently purchased and the new owners are getting up to speed. I really like the golf course, grass driving range and I see lots of kids. I am very excited to get coaching teams started at this location. At the moment we have a team that meets on Wednesdays at 4 pm for youth golfers of all abilities. There is also an adult team that meets at 6 pm on Wednesday evenings. I am starting a ladies only team on Saturday mornings. There will be a tots program for kids under 7 that are interested in golf. I also have a clinic schedule and youth development tournament program on the calendar. If you get a chance, checkout the Richland website for course information. richlandgolfclub.com
Real Estate
We just sold and bought our new home. It was a painful experience with difficult buyers and sellers. I had inquired about getting into real estate a couple of years ago but didn’t want to quit my day job. Our realtor invited me to join his brokerage part time after I finish the class. I am getting close to getting my license and start working at the brokerage to learn the ropes. After this past experience I realize how emotional the process is and how I can make a difference. I am not quitting my day job but looking forward to an exciting new adventure. If you know anyone looking to buy or sell please share my contact info. I will do a great job for them.
Chris Custom Coaching: Tip of the Month
Power Tip
Before I go any farther, first get a TPI screening to evaluate your body. Then get an improvement plan to change the areas your TPI professional identifies.
I believe there are 2 general power sources, rotational and vertical. For example, the faster you turn and slow down the more dynamic rotational power you can create. In addition, the higher you “jump” or vertically thrust the power you can create from the ground with your legs. Someone usually asks me, “How do you do this without lifting your head”? My answer is, by tilting your pelvis. Let’s assume you can do that and it happens. I want you to create a little knee flex in your down swing and then jump through the hitting area. Start with using only the tees to see if you hit them. I expect this to take some time, gradually incorporate the ball. Remember, on the course your focus is the target.
I plan to write more newsletters now that things have settled down and we are growing roots between College Park and Frederick. Have a great summer!
